Grünbeck's UV systems represent the environmental-friendly alternative to the common disinfection methods such as the chlorination of the drinking water. The UV disinfection kills germs by means of a light source - similar to the sunlight - in the UVC range and a wavelength of 254 nm. The UV systems 40 S, 60 S 120 S and 200 S which are designed for the drinking water sector are all certified according to the DVGW work sheet W 294.

Sometimes, not all the legionellae occurring in the warm water are reached by the UV light as they are hidden in protective shelters and therefore can avoid the irradiation. This is why, in the GENO-BREAK system, the UV disinfection is supported by an ultrasound system installed upstream of the disinfection unit. Making use of the cavitation effect, the typical shelters (e. g. amoebae) are broken up and hidden legionellae are set free for the subsequent UV disinfection.
